Still battling oxalis and down sizing colonies in my semp beds. I have been just enjoying the show without much colony maintenance. Pulled up Pale Face and found that all the off sets are growing off one central core stalk. The colony was a cone shape pile.Didn't get a picture of before but this is what it looks like with some chicks pulled off.

Anyone else see this? What varieties are doing this?

Julia, this year I am seeing that in a number of semps. 'Little Princess' and several others are the same as yours. Big mature rosettes, when you go to harvest the rosettes are not not individually rooted like we are used to seeing.
In the last two months I have removed some and planted them, they have all taken off growing their own roots now.
Weird.
In the past I have seen some of the arachnoideum types do this.

Yes, the arachnoideum do tend to grow like this. Just interesting that not one of the chicks was grounded.
I been contemplating pulling this apart.





Whirl-I-gig

I have had my 'Whirl-i-gig' for about 7 years now, with amazing contorted rosettes. Last year the entire colony lost it whirl, and has reverted back to gig.
Hmmm, I will have to go out and look at what mine is doing under all those fuzzy rosettes. Some of mine are rooting and others not.

I thinking this may have colony collapse soon.

Mine ('Whirl-i-gig') is looking very healthy and even attaching itself to the top of the cement blocks.

Julia, my 'Princess Little' is doing the same way, and no reason for the offset from last year not to root. Time to tear it apart and force the offset to put roots out.
