Looking for Magic: Black Pepper

By Sharon
September 25, 2012

Aunt Bett always said, "Look for the magic that hides in plants, look real close and you'll find it." We get so used to seeing condiments at every meal, sometimes we don't even notice them and we certainly never think of the plants that are their source. Most of them provide nutrition our bodies need, whether we realize it or not. So is black pepper magic? Surely not. Oh, but let's take a closer look.

I never believed it to be true until my ex-father-in-law persuaded me to try putting pepper on a strawberry...it really enhances the strawberry flavour.

I agree It is very good on strawberries and most other fruits, I have even used it in custards, just a hint. And I swear Sharon, I started sneezing close to the end of your great article!!! Thumbs up

I love black pepper. I will forever think of it as a spice that is more than just good tasting, it is also good for me.
What a great new thing to learn today. Thank you Sharon. Group hug

We use a lot of pepper, too! Sneezes and all! I find that in most recipes that call for pepper, I usually double the amount because we like that little bite it gives us. Of course I grew up eating field peas with hot peppers chopped up in them. With that, it was the tears streaming down my cheeks!

Thanks Jean! Smiling

Seems that between onions and peppers we sure shed a lot of well earned tears.
