Thrift-store glass globes can be topped with the light portions from solar stake-lights and placed throughout the garden as hanging or staked accent lights.

What a clever idea and a good reuse for an old item. I like it!

We used to have a 2nd hand store and had many items that would have worked well with the solar lights.

I just need to start thinking outside the box. I'd bet your garden is beautiful at night. Kristi

Does the solar panel get enough light? I thought that they need unobstructed light to work...

From the photo, it appears the solar panel surface is exposed.
The lights should glow downward and light up the globe. I'd bet that is pretty! Kristi

Yes, the collector is at the top, exposed to the sun. At night they all light up and look FABulous!

My husband put one of the wide-open ones on a copper stake, and I made a cover for it with a hole in it for the light to fit in. Same thing could be done with an upside-down recycled glass plate by drilling a hole in the center with a glass drill. The plate keeps the solar light in place, and fits just over the edge to keeps rain and leaves out of the globe.

Originally I put candles in all of these, and they were incredibly messy. Now they're almost zero-maintenance, although some of the batteries have worn out and had to be replaced.

And if I can add, the top is the solar panel. The light shines downward so it would easily light up the globe. I really think that is clever. Kristi
