Has anyone in the wet, humid south tried to grow Iris unguicularis in a pot? Were you successful? Has anyone in zone 7a In the south tried to grow walking iris (Neomarica gracilis) here in a pot. I know it is not hardy to zone 7a.

I grow both Mary. In pots too. The unguicularis grows outdoors year round and blooms at Christmas thru February. I am sure I posted a photo somewhere. The walking iris comes inside during the winter and looks lovely indoors.
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?

Bonnie,

I read that the unguicularis likes it really dry in the summer. Last year our summer was quite wet until August. This year??? Thus far, it has been really wet. I wonder if I should try to grow the unguicularis in a pot?

I have mine in a bucket at the front gate. In the winter I spend most of my time indoors and may miss its blooms if it were not at the gate. It is on its own most of the year. If we are having a drought and I water everything else it gets a minute with the hose. It has grown and bloomed in this spot for maybe 10 years.
