I have two aglaonema, Etta Rose and an unidentifiable pink one, that are both starting to bloom. The Etta rose has one bloom and the pink has two. Is it possible take advantage of this simultaneous blooming and pollinate one plant? If so, how? I've never had two of anything blooming at the same time, so I haven't had a chance to try.

Well, you can try but it takes patience and dedication.

On each spadix, the male flowers are located on the upper half, and the females on the lower half.

The spathe covers the spadix until the day the female flowers open, then it unfurls, usually at night, to expose the male flowers.

The female flowers should be pollinated the same day as the spathe unfurls.

Use a brush to transfer the pollen, then you have to create 100% humidity, the usual method is to wrap the entire spathe/spadix in a wet paper towel and enclose it in a plastic bag for 24 hours.

If the pollination takes, dark green fruit will form, get bigger and in 4-5 months turn bright red. You remove the seed from the red seed coat and plant it in a mixture of peat and perlite, keep at least 80F and 100% humidity. Seeds take 4-8 months to germinate

I hope both plants open within the same day. They look really close. I want to at least try.
I could do a heat mat and a covered seed tray if I actually get to that point.

I tried it with my A. pictum Tricolor and it did not take. But I have a second one in my terrarium getting ready to bloom and am going to try again

I might have better luck with just the noid plant on its own. The two blooms look like they're developing at the same rate, but I can't be sure. I'm assuming I can pollinate it on the same plant, right? It looks like possibly 2+ noid plants are in the same pot. I'll try to get a picture of it tomorrow.

Either way, I'm going to try something whenever they get closer to opening. Right now all three are closed up.

I tried to pollinate my Tricolor pictum yesterday and broke the darn spadix. They are VERY FRAGILE I have found. You will be able to see the pollen like a fine white dust on the outer edges of the sheath once it pops.

It hasn't worked out thus far. The timing was way off. The Etta Rose opened two days ago and the noid hasn't opened on either of the two blooms yet. I'm still keeping an eye on those two, though. Looks like they're a few days off still, but I was totally off on my prediction with the Etta Rose. I thought it was days off and boom, it was open the next day.

Yeah you really have to watch them. I was unable to pollinate my pictum tricolor either

I checked again and the NOID that I'm calling "wishes" now has a third bloom, so I'm watching closely. At least it's happy
