Hello,

I found this strange iris among a bed of light purple "regular" bearded irises. This plant has short, curly/wavy foliage, and although it has the characteristic fuzzy beards, it seems to have missing/vestigial standards and falls on the flowers.

I have included photos of the same bloom from different angles, as well as one photo of the foliage and rhizome.

I would like to know if this is a "regular" bearded that is afflicted with a disease/pest/mutation, or if it is a different variety.

The irises are from the bed of a neighbor's garden who says they were a gift from a friend years ago, and she doesn't know anything about them.

Thank you in advance for any help.

So your Iris is a lot like mine as it is a Wild Iris normally from South Africa.

Your iris seems to be affected by either disease (virus) or chemicals. Perhaps drift from some type of herbicide. At any rate, I would dispose of it.

Yup ! Looks like either Round up, or 2,4-D! It will , probably, "grow out of it", but will probablytake a couple of seasons.

Yeah, the foliage looks bad, too.

Thank you for all this input. I will dispose of the irises that look like this.
