All About American Beautyberry

By wildflowers
November 25, 2016

I really look forward to fall when so many plants change into their colorful fall wardrobes; it's such a beautiful sight. The American Beautyberry is one such plant that makes quite a showing, boasting bright magenta berries that look much like bracelets of amethyst beads glistening in clusters along drooping branches.

So easy to grow, put seeds in refrig in bag of damp sand & peatmoss or just sow in fall/winter directions Seed-clean of pulp, soak dried seed, sow seeds in potting mix, keep damp, provide bottom heat 70°, provide light, 65 watts 4400K LED 24 inches above seedlings use bottom heat (70°F) germination 7-14 days strike semi ripe wood cuttings (hardwood cuttings later in the season don't require heat) after first few leaves move to full daylight 320 watts 4400°K LED 36 inches to 1 meter above seedling lower or raise as plants tell you what to do. A window doesn't provide enought light most of the time. Keep under light source 12 hours or longer, listen to the plant. Feed lightly once it has real leaves, more leaves more feed.

Move outside when its ready, then once berries appear cover with bird netting, remove after leaves drop to show stunning lavender berries or U can get feral cats instead of netting. No bird feeders near beauty berry, or berries will fly away.
Feral cats can often be sterilized for free, ask the SPCA for specific older than 8 months,(that's a hard fact).
