I planted 20 Eugenia uniflora seeds on March 30th. Not a single dud among the bunch.

I have a 100% success rate on seed germination. My last seedling poked its head above the soil overnight.

I have already given a bunch of them away. Did you know this bush is known to help repel mosquitoes?

how are yr seedling doing? any pics? i see that they can be bonsai-ed. just curious how large they get in a year?
i just harvested several ripe Surinam cherries. i read that seeds are viable for a month. i already ate one: very interesting flavor!.
any tips on how to process them? i usually soak for 24 hours, skin the outer skin/shell, plant in moist sphag or coco-peat.
since it's ultra fresh, prolly no need to soak?
and how deep to plant? some seeds require light.. how deep did you plant yours,

I unloaded all but one plant. It was been drastically pruned a couple months ago to keep it small enough for its 7 inch pot.

i have noticed some pics in the database that show burgundy leaves. i suppose that's in winter? have you observed color change in fall/winter. it is supposed to be evergreen, i didn't know evergreens changed color.
i am in Miami FL. so just wondering how it did in winter?

The new leaves come out red or burgundy. It's beautiful. You can see them on the tips of the branches in my photo.

yes i can see the variation on tips. But i see totally burgundy leaves - the whole plant ! in DB. found an explanation: cool temps in fall. nice color!
they used to grow them as hedges in FL apparently and they were very popular until they started reseeding ..Read that in Bermuda they pushed out natives and grew in big thatches..
i found a large tree in a cleared lot. and a small bush too, i'll try to root some cuttings too. from seed it may take 2-3 years to fruit. i want it faster :)!.
