Howdy Peeps!

Here's some photos of the garden taken this morning along with some of my harvest photos. I have 6 qts of pickled beets already and almost 4 lbs of green beans harvested this season. Difficult to see the cantaloupe and cucumber on the trellis. Should have gotten a close up shot. Maybe next time.

Anyways, the zucchini, watermelon, acorn squash, butternut and pumpkin have just broke soil. Hopefully, I'll see a nice harvest in October. Might be a bit late on the watermelon, but they are sugar baby, so maybe they'll be okay.

Hi Karen! Thanks, Sweetheart. I told myself I was going to be taking summers off, but here I am again, planting the melons, squash and gourds! I'm really holding my feet to the fire this year to not have another tangled mess out there. I've done a lot of research on tending/pruning these crops; and if I fail due to heat or apathy, well I'll be calling summers off for good.

We did get a new well at the cost of $15K! Now the new well is not producing well due to our severe drought. We haven't had a good rain in a long time. We are having to conserve water again.

Then I had surgery on my neck and on my back 2 months later. It's been a long recovery from those surgeries. I'm glad they got done right before everything closed down for the pandemic! I am doing PT now, and just doing a little bit of gardening. I have 3 tomato plants I grew from seed and keep some cilantro going as well as I can. It bolts quickly here. Most of the rest of my plants are tropicals like Plumerias, hibiscus, geranium, and lots of cacti and succulents. I'm trying to get most of them out of the pots and into the ground.

I gardened in Boise Idaho for a couple of pleasant years - a 7a (that too was fiction) high-mountain-desert zone. I quite liked it.

Here, 9a is temperate, not quite Mediterranean. Sea level. Hot, dry summers, short and mostly moderate winters. Coldest winter reading this year (one night) in January was 29, but boy did we get a lot of rain this winter...and have now gone from the summer-like 90's last week to winter-like upper 50's and more rain. Unheard of in June. My tomatoes are not happy.

Oh, Karen! Neck and back surgery is some serious stuff! I'm so sorry to hear this news, but I'm glad you are on the road to recovery!! Do rush it, but do try to complete all the exercises the PT asks. I can't tell you how many times I was in PT for keyboard related neck/shoulder/wrist pain. The exercises and Anti-inflammatory meds were my saving grace.

Your weather is exactly what we experienced here this year! More rain than usual and unusual out-of-season cold spells... really cold spells. In fact, we just had night temps in the low 50s just a couple weeks ago.

I've done cherry tomatoes in our shaded hoop house, but they are never very abundant. I've accepted that it just isn't going to work out for us for many reasons. Just can't seem to make it work.

So impressed as usual with the crops you get in that environment, Gina!

I grew sweet 100 cherry tomatoes from seed this year. They are all in pots. Started eating them a coup!e weeks ago. Our elevation is just over 2400 feet. 108 here yesterday and 106 today. Very dry.

Thanks, Gina. I am practicing all of the exercises. There were some like push ups that I thought I could never do. I never have been able to do even one. My PT kept pushing me, and now I can do 2 of them! He expects me to get up to 20! I'm not so sure about that, lol! I'm still on the strong drugs, but need to get off of all of them soon. I'm sure exercises will be even harder then.
