I bought a 6 cell pack of leaf lettuce varieties recently. I don't know what they are because the label does not include names. This is my first time trying to grow my own lettuce.

Unfortunately I've had a delay in getting the potting mix I ordered so I have had to keep them in the cell pack. Are lettuce not able to survive long in cell packs? I've noticed mine are rapidly dying. Every day more leaves wilt, also some leaves turn yellow. Some of the leaves have brown spots or desiccated edges.

I transplanted the one lettuce plant in the worst shape into a bigger pot with potting soil and all the leaves wilted overnight; basically looks like it' done for. So that transplant killed it rather than saving it!

I can't figure out why this is happening - I have been watering from below once a day. I read that both overwatering/underwatering can lead to wilt, so I even skipped a day here and there afraid the soil might be too moist. But it doesn't seem to matter what I do, the leaves just keep wilting.

I am growing them indoors under a growlight.I keep the growlight on all day and leave them in dark at night. Temps indoors are not too hot during the day and cool at night.

My potting mix arrives this coming Thursday but at the rate things are going it looks like all my plants will be dead by then! If anyone has any tips about what i can do to keep them alive I'd appreciate it.

Maybe I will need to buy another cell pack of lettuce?

My ultimate plan is to plant the lettuce plants in 3 gallon grow bags (10" x 10"), 3 per bag, in a triangle formation and continue to grow them indoors under my grow-light. Should this work well, or can I get even more than 3 plants in a 3 gallon grow bag?

Also it looks like a few of the cell pack actually contain two different lettuce plants of different varieties? Should I separate these plants using water to disentangle the roots and plant them separately?

Appreciate your feedback.
