Ok so generally chicken manure is supposed to be great for vegetables when it's composted down... But I'm wondering, if I can use it for pathways between rows. I have tons of wood chip bedding with desiccated manure. Its not as aged as it should be, though it makes up a low percentage of the wood chips manure ratio. I'd like it to block weeds between rows.
I'm asking because I have my iris seedlings between vegetable rows along with some freshly planted new irises!
I just don't want to burn anything. I know what the master gardeners would say lol, but I also know a number of rose growers that swear by putting fresh horse manure on their roses. ( which now that I have a pony I do.) might pathogens be a problem? There are some food crops but nothing like strawberries. The seedling irises are 7-8 inches so nothing to tiny. I think they might benefit from a bit of compost. They might be getting a bit over baked in the sun. I might use something without manure though I planted Some Love -in a-Mist among them. hopefully to provide some shade and help hold moisture. Any thoughts?
