The photos on the right got me wondering. My 'Ziggy' never blooms with striated falls. It has been in my garden for four seasons and has bloomed for each of those seasons with never a single striated fall. Does anyone else have this same issue with this plant? If so, should I be doing something to the plant to help the falls to striate?

If you look in the data base, there are several pictures of Ziggy without the broken pattern on the falls. I have not had Ziggy, but I've had at least one other broken color iris that reverted back to not being broken pattern. I have heard that that pattern is due to a virus, if that's correct, maybe Ziggy got over it. Hilarious!

Breaking in tulips in caused by a virus, but I think it is a genetic controlled mechanism in irises. But I'm not sure why there is more or less (or no breaking) from year to year or flower to flower. Maybe interactions with the environment?
