Thread OP

not sure what's happening here. we are not gardeners by hobby but love to plant for landscaping. this guy showed up last year and we believe its grapes, are we correct? if not what is it? and why has it shown up? its outgrowing the rose by a lot. and the rose has been there way longer than it any input would be thankful. do we need to pull it Thank You!

Might well be some sort of wild grape, the gift of a passing bird. I would pull it for the rose's sake. If you want grapes, there are better ways. Wild grapes can be pretty aggressive.

I don't think it's a grape, the leaves just don't seem 'right'. Where are you located? That will help clarify what it is or isn't. Gerald is probably right that you should pull it up, the rose will thank you.

If you want the rose to live get the grape out of there. Also pull all the grass and weeds from around the bottom of the rose as well.

Maybe it takes a long time to grow, but remember that if nobody plants it, nobody has it.

Removing the roots of a grapevine that large might well damage the rose root.
