What I want to know is if I were to come visit your area where would I go to see the best displays, talk to the most knowledgeable people, find the coolest plants? It could be a specialty nursery, mom and pop general plant store, best big box(!), wherever you go to satisfy plant lust.

In my area (inland Southern California) I usually go to Parkview Nursery in Riverside (I know the owner and used to work there), Louie's Nursery in Woodcrest, and Sunshine Growers in Eastvale or Corona.

When my wife and I go "nursery-hopping" (yes it's a thing plant nerds do) we have several different tour destinations depending on how far we want to go and what kind of plants we think we're looking for (of course that doesn't mean we won't get other stuff too, we are after all plant addicts Rolling my eyes. ). We have a San Diego route (Mission Hills, Anderson's, Weidner's Begonia Farm, etc); an Orange County route (Roger's Gardens, Armstrong Garden Center{I used to work at some of them too}, M&M, Village, Upland, and so on); an Interstate 210 route (California Cactus Center, San Gabriel Nursery, Bellefontaine Gardens etc).

So, do any of you "nursery-hop"? Do you have nurseries you "must" go to? Tell us your sources for your "fix". We need to know.

Hello, my name is John and I am a plant addict. Sighing!

Love to but not so easy anymore since many have closed over the last few years. If you were to be in northern N.J. the place to visit is Well Sweep Herb Farm.

I've only been there once but California Cactus Center in Pasadena was amazing (http://www.cactuscenter.com/) -- and they had locally made very cool unusual ceramic pots just the right size for miniature succulents. So sad I had to give my collection away when I moved.

If you happen to find yourself in Vanrhynsdorp, Northern Cape, South Africa, don't miss the Kokerboom Kwekery -- (http://www.kokerboom.co.za/) of course pretty much every where you look in the Northern Cape you see amazing wild succulents as well.

I've heard great things about Annie's and the catalog is awesome (spikes the plantlust to 12!). Want to go there and drool in person.

I've also been to California Cactus Center only once and really want to go again if I ever get a yard again. Their "staging" is incredible and makes the plants the pieces of art they really are.

My friends and I spent the morning at Rock City Gardens, a beautiful plant nursery and small botanical garden in Wabasso, FL (just North of Vero Beach). We have to drive an hour to get there but it is worth it. They have lots of plants you won't find in the big box stores.

Welcome! Joyce!

That's just the kind of place I love to find! A cool nursery with a botanical garden attached? How much ARE tickets to Florida?! And yes, I'll drive 2 hours to visit a "not like a big box store" nursery. I am a plant addict that is only partially in recovery because our yard is small and mostly concrete.

You are so lucky to live where everything grows so lush AND you have that 'rain' stuff I keep hearing about!

Thank You! I have to admit I am a plant addict also. My friends and I love to shop at the many garden festivals that we have here in Florida every year. I wish I could show you a photo of my van loaded up with plants after one of our shopping sprees.

I love the independent nurseries and go often but I went to Lowe's today for some bags of compost and was amazed at the wide selection of plants there. Bought a daylily in bud plus my compost. I went to the independent nurserty first but they were out. I need it in the morning.

OH! Garden shows and plant sales! You would not believe how much you can get into a Honda Civic if you really, really want to! Then when we got a RAV 4 it was all over! They hold waaaaay to much for a plant addict and a flower child! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I used to live near Roger's Gardens, I like to go to the Armstrong center in Huntington Beach, they seem to have better plant selections than the one near me. OC Succulents in OC is one of my favorite place to browse through.

Central Arkansas: I have two favorites—Good Earth Garden Center, and Plantopia. Both independent and both amazing in their own ways.

John you would be right at home at Good Earth!

I agree Thank You!
Love the name and I need to find a sign like that to take with me from store to store! Hilarious! nodding I should also get one for the street in front of my house, although then all the neighbors would know the truth about my 12-step program that isn't working. Green Grin! Sighing!

My brother lives in Binghamton NY and when I went to visit him oh these many years ago, there was a really cool nursery/greenhouse fairly close to him. I wish I could remember the name.
I had some friends in Athens GA that took me to another real cool nursery there. They had great displays, awesome variety, and very well cared for plants. If we hadn't been flying back to SoCal we probably would have brought stuff home!

Anybody else have favorite nurseries?

My favorite place is Mutschler's outside of Reading, PA. Such a neat place. Lots of uncommon / rare items.

Mutschler's— great website! Looks like a place I'd definitely enjoy! Well kept, great selection, well displayed, and an education tent to boot! Hurray! Hitting all the high points. Tell them they have a fan.

Some excellent ones are My Garden Nursery on Bakerview and Garden Spot Nursery on James St in Bellingham, WA. These are both amazing nurseries! You won't be able to leave without buying something!
