Hi, This is my first post here... I'm in Austin, Texas (zone 8B) and potted my first plumeria in a ceramic container with a cactus mix on my balcony about a month ago. It quickly grew a bunch of new leaves but now some of them are turning yellow with spots and then brown and shriveled. The plant gets about 6 hours of afternoon/evening sun and it's been very hot here. I've been watering it about once a week. I gave it a very small amount of succulent fertilizer a couple weeks ago. I love this plant and would appreciate any advice on what could be the problem and how to keep it healthy. Thank you!

The top photo looks like sunburn. The only plant I have with the second photo issue, is one I bought from a local garden center a couple months back. I figured it was whatever fertilizer they were using to beef them up for sale, and eventually it would push out. It hasn't. The leaves grow really fast, but the yellow spots remain. It also drops leaves regularly. I wish I had some really good advice for you, but I've tried lots of things to combat it, to no avail. I think they're just sickly. It also had a VERY woody trunk when I got it, which looked really odd. Not sure if yours is the same way or not.

I would however, try to move it to a spot that gets more morning sun as opposed to afternoon sun. I'm in Houston, and my afternoon sun is brutal.

Thanks, TeamCll for your reply. I may try to move the plant a bit but unfortunately it's on a balcony so morning light isn't really an option. Good luck with your plumeria in Houston.

Hello Aaron, at this time of the year, as summer ensues so hot and dry, I have to water my Plumerias daily here, to compensate for the excessive heat conditions. My side does not get rain anymore for 6 to 7 months, so the plant really gets thirsty.

This is one plant that truly loves as much sun it can get once leafing and awake, but it will suffer when it is not meeting its humidity and watering needs.

Your media looks gritty enough, and as long as there is no soggy part anywhere in the trunk, I will water it daily. I even actually spray the trunk, but not the leaves. It is different if it is rain, they like that better. Smiling

Thanks, Tarev. I'll try and give the plant more water and watch out for a soggy trunk. Smiling
