Thread OP

Hi,
I am dealing with a drainage issue in my garden so I tried using sunken containers with 3/4" gravel and eventually river rocks around the containers. I have a 12 ft x 12 ft patio and all the water from underneath trickles into my L shaped garden. I managed to place the containers on top of this water level but when it rains the water goes to let's say mid container height. My containers have drainage holes maybe 6x 1/2 inch. I believe my inly solution seems to be a perforated pipe to send the water elsewhere or if not select plants that can have the container bottom half submerged in water. Please see my photos and provide any advice! Thanks in advance!

So, if I understand, you have this "L" garden that doesn't drain sufficiently. Not much you can do to keep the water from running off the patio, so it would have to be drained from the bed. I suppose what you mean by the perf pipe is burying the pipe under the rock and transitioning to none-perf pipe to lead it elsewhere. Of course, you have to have a lower place to take it, ideally one that itself drains well without creating its own problem.

Is the ground just not able to absorb water, or the bed lined so it can't reach the soil? I guess the simple thing would be to stack a few round step stones to support the containers out of the highest water level.

There's no lining, the ground doesn't absorb really fast but there's really a lot of water coming from under the patio. I mean i emptied the water and it just filled back up , not as high but still this is crazy.

I also agree that putting the containers above ground is the simplest solution. I was planning on adding 3 inches of river rocks on top of the basic gravel that i have now. I'll try to see if i can find a nice looking stepping stone or if not I'll simply put the containers on the river rocks !

Thanks a lot for the advice!
