I have one adenium seedling, out of my 18, that still only two leaves. Will not grow any more. No new growth for a month now. Looks healthy. Its 2 months old. Is this normal?
The shape of it's caudex is flatter, less round. More like an oblong shape. Wondering if it's a slow grower adenium variety, dha? Anybody know a way of telling the differences?

Adeniums in general are pretty slow growing. sometimes it seems like forever before buds open or seeds ripen. Patience is needed, especially with Adeniums.

@plantmanager No, still no growth. Roots are growing but still looks like a stump. No leaves at all. Trimmed the tip in hopes it would initiate growth. Any thoughts on what to try? Specific fertilizer?

Good idea, Deepsouth! It will help to see it. Some types of Adenium are slower growing than the more common ones.

The top had been trimmed and covered in cinnamon to hopefully initiate growth

where are you located ?

that brown circle at top center is rot ..... the "green" live portion will hold out for a while longer, but it too will succumb to rot

to try and save the plant ....might try taking thin slices off the top until all you see is white ... all traces of tan, brown or black colored tissue must be removed

new stems may emerge along the top cut edge -
adenium take a very long time to respond to changes ...sometimes over a month ..

to prevent dieback of new stems - pinch out any leaf or leaves the shade out other leaves or stems

warmth and partial sunlight may speed things up some

water less and do not add fertilizer at this time

The brown at top is cinnamon. I already cut it.

I did just put out in partial sunlight for today. It gets really hot here so have to watch it. I will trim top again if you think necessary. Do you ever use cinnamon on cuts?

I do not see "eyes/nodes" where branches normally grow.

If top is not rotted and it has stayed alive for a year old, try keeping it alive and maybe when it is big enough or tall enough, if it doesn't develop a branch, you can do a flat graft of a desert rose cultivar you like?

Yes, I will keep it out of the full sun for now but agree with James partial sun may be okay. I moved mine to where they get morning sun only. Also plastic pots get too hot on direct sun.

Thanks for the help. It is usually in a greenhouse. Just moved it out for air. I think it's too short as well. Cut very little first time. I'm doing my best to just keep it alive. I'll keep you posted

cinnamon -
above soil mix .....I only use cinnamon only when I do not have any Copper Fungicide Dust
below in the root zone ....only use cinnamon only when I do not have any Rootone (hormone + fungicide)
cinnamon is my second choice ..

and ....sometimes .... if it is relatively dry - and not humid ...wont use anything ....will leave plant not potted and allow the cut to harden over on its own (if dry takes about a week)

frankly ....i am surprised this plant is still alive ..... if you just cut the top off .... then give it about a month to grow new growth ....

if no growth happens, try again ....with a finer, sandier, less organic potting medium

your plants roots may not have enough substrate for the roots to grow & expand

try this ...

acquire enough sand to fill the pot ...

dump the pot ...turn pot upside down .....separate adenium from potting media

punch or add a bunch of holes in bottom and sides of pot .... holes about 4mm diameter

next fill the pot with sand .... make a hole in the sand with your finger

set the plant in hole, but just barely cover the roots ......

saturate the sand ....firm-up sand ..... keep sand moist - but not dripping wet

carefully pull plant from sand in about 10 days ....check for root growth ....if roots have not doubled in length or at least the height of plant ...return to sand for another 10 days
