I just wanted to tell everyone what a great daylily Midsummer A Woman's Work is. It started blooming June 9 here, put out rebloom scapes, and has been in constant bloom since it began. More scapes have come up, and will be blooming well into September at this point. It has previously taken a short break before putting out rebloom scapes, but has always rebloomed late in the season and one year frost took out the last blooms. It is in the worst part of my garden, getting no additional water or fertilizer. Bud counts are less than stated, at just over 20 average, but if it were watered and cared for properly, I think this would probably meet expectations. We have not been in a drought, but it has been pretty dry. Not the prettiest face in the garden, but I like it better than Stella d'oro, much better performer than Stella ever was for me. I always appreciate any bloom this late in the season. The hybridizer is P. Ball

It's always nice to hear about a daylily that extends the season with rebloom. Especially since you and I live relatively close and are in the same zone, I am sure it would perform the same for me. No, it may not be the most flashy color, but it is still pretty. Any daylily blooming in my garden in September is a treasure!

I am assuming that the name is connected to Shakespeare's play, 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' although I don't remember ever seeing it, so I don't understand the reference to 'a woman's work'. Am I on the right track with the name?

As to the name, my garden name is Midsummer Daylily Garden. A Woman's Work was a name taken long ago, and I had put that down as my second choice when registering it (if I'm remembering correctly).

Oh thanks for the clarification on the name, Pat. I didn't put two and two together on the name. It does look like it would be a great garden plant to have.
