Thread OP

Hi all, I am the new, happy caregiver of this gigantic beauty (her prior owner moved out of the area). She seems to be adjusting well, with new growth continuing to come in over these last several months.

Not knowing much about dumb cane prior to getting her, I am now wondering...is her pot too small? I read somewhere that each spring I should be checking root density and considering whether to repot, but that was general advice for much smaller plants. How does one know when such a big sweetheart needs more space?

If she does need to be repotted, any advice on how to achieve such an undertaking? She's just shy of 9 feet tall from the base of her pot to the top of her tallest leaf! Her pot measures 15W x 15D x 14H (interior measurements).
Thanks so much for your thoughts!

Hi trolleygirl, Welcome!

Lovey dubby That is one gorgeous Dumb Cane (Dieffenbachia seguine)

Repotting can cause unnecessary stress to plants and I would never advise repotting what appears to be a happy, healthy plant! I'm sure others will be along soon with advice and suggestions.

My mom had similar plants in her business. She left them in pots like yours for years and years. She did fertilize with half strength fertilizer maybe 3 times a year. Yours does look very happpy, so don't change a thing. Lovey dubby

Okay, thanks so much! I'm hearing she's not broke, so I don't need to try to fix her! I appreciate the feedback Grin
