I am in the midst of fall cleanup. I have typically just pulled the dead leaves off my daylillies but this year I decided to cut the whole clump back to about 6-8" or so. It certainly looks tidier. What have others done for over-wintering this plant? I could post in the daylily forum but am more interested in how folks in the PNW do things, so opted for this forum. And, my daylilies are not the 'stars' of my beds, more supporting cast - mostly Stellas and some other robust cultivars. Another issue I struggle with is my clumps get really crowded, often mounding up. The only thing I've found to counter-act this is to divide the clump. I suppose I can put my extras at the driveway for free, I don't really need or want any more new clumps.

I do the same Deb. I'm in the process of cutting them down now. Also been dividing clumps as they are over growing there space.
I went crazy with daylilies but just don't see what all the excitement is about these plants. Only one season of color!😩 Also many don't fully open in our cool summers.

Yeah, I like them as kind of quiet partners to other blooms. I like how early they pop out in the spring but by late summer they look pretty ragged.
