I was just given a cutting. What's the proper way to prepare it?
It still has all the leaves, so I believe I'm supposed to snip them off.

Do I snip it all the way as close for branch as possible?

And it has some large red claws growing. Should I also cut those off?

Yes, I snip all the leaves off close to the stalk, I will leave the little claws on as well as any smaller leaves 1/2 inch or smaller. Then let callus over for 4 or 5 days. I use a rooting compound on some of mine but not all and have had good success both ways. Water once when planting and put in a partly shady area and don't water again for at least 2 weeks and then only lightly water. Keep it dry. It's getting late in season so I would get it in the ground soon.
That how I do it.😎

So the little claws seems to be alittle over 1/2 inch or longer. I should snip them?

You don't have to snip those. Just full leaves.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
