I was thrilled to find 3 yellow raspberry plants on sale at my local nursery in May. I planted them in a bare spot in my row of reds. They have struggled from the very start while my established reds are absolutely flourishing, even ones I transplanted to bring order to my patch. They are in loamy soil with good drainage. I grew Fall Golds years ago and don't recall them being any more difficult than reds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you remember what cultivars they were? Anne has very low cane density and always looks like it's struggling and Goldie doesn't like hot weather and direct strong sunlight. In fact apart from Fall Gold, most easily available yellow raspberry cultivars are not as tough as their standard brethren and each cultivar seems to have a different issue...

I planted a baby red raspberry at the end of my established row of black raspberries. It barely survived the summer but is finally starting to take off. My sister in law had something similar happen with her raspberries. Sometimes I think they just have a really slow first year.

I had all three colors (yellow, pink, black) when I lived in Pocatello, Idaho. The yellow one was always smaller with fewer canes (I think it was Anne), I just figured it lacked vigor with the number of crosses needed to get the color.
