Thanks for sharing. A welcome Fall treat.

We have 3 clumps of single flower Colchicums (all one variety) currently in bloom. . They are a 'pleasant surprise' as almost forgotten. We mark the areas to be sure not to dig them up. We plant a lot Spring bulbs this time of year.

They have taken over a decade to get well established. They are in a semi shaded area and make their appearance after the surrounding ferns have died down which allows more light at ground level.

@Wildalpine I agree When others are starting to brown, out pop these lovely surprises. THis year is the best showing for these bulbs due to early cooler weather. The blooms don't last long in hot weather. I have these blooming for more than a week now.

That is smart to mark the area of these bulbs as they disappear about July. These single ones do well for me too. THe first two are the best returners and increasers. The doubles don't multiply as well for me. Some disappear after a few years. Have you ever tried growing the double ones?

I've been thinking of adding some of these to my garden but am a bit stumped as to what to plant with them to hide the dying foliage?
