This time of year, I've got daffs on my mind. I've just recently made my bulb purchases for next spring, so I've been browsing bazillions of beautiful daff photos and drooling over all of them.

What's your favorite?

Mine, hands down, is the old reliable Jetfire. It's not fancy, it's not the latest and most fashionable, but it's the one that cheers me up the most every spring. I love the swept-back petals and the orange trumpet, and I love its dependability and early(ish) bloom.

What's yours?

Dutch Master.

We want a big splash of bright yellow. Super dependable and multiply.

I plant 2 or 3 Alliums, Purple Sensation, with the Dutch Masters. This way the daffodil leaves look natural after the flower has faded. After the Allium is finished blooming, I cut cut back the fading daffodil leaves.

This is usually in amongst hostas, coral bells etc. that are then ready to take over.

Having said this, we have 3 or 4 other daffodil varieties that return each Spring and I'm not sure who is who. Perhaps 1200 or so in total. We plant way more tulips but Usually cull them after a couple years if not performing well.

My favorite is February Silver. It is a very early bloomer - blooms a week after tete a tete which is very early. The blooms last for a long time. This year the blooms last about 3 weeks. The flowers fade very gracefully such that you don't even notice it.

Love it so much that I ordered another set from Van Engelen this year.

Another nice one is Geranium. It blooms like crazy and an excellent increaser.

Fragrant Rose is another nice one that is very fragrant and very pretty. I am not sure if it is still available.

Another pink one that I like is Perfect Lady. Unfortunately this one is not a robust one and they don't return as well as the others noted above. The flowers are so beautiful though!

Pink in a daff is just wrong for me. So bring on the yellow. Such a cheery way to welcome spring.

Oh, yes, Geranium is another favorite of mine too. And I should also mention the old pheasant's eye, which you will see all over in this area as survivors of old homesites where the houses have been torn down but the daffs remain.

I'm not familiar with that February Silver -- very nice! I may have to look for that one. And yes, you can still get Fragrant Rose, I've seen it at some website or other. Smiling

I checked on February Silver. Scheepers carries it, but they're already sold out. Maybe next year!

I guess it is a bit late to order daffodils in Oct. I am sure they will be available next year.

Nah, you can still get daffs lots of places. And as long as your soil isn't frozen, it isn't too late to plant them!

Love pseudonarcissus (Lent Lily). Here in the deep south you see it blooming in places where old homesteads had been.
