We do not often or never ask ourselves this question.
Do you think of them as just flowers, or do they remind you of someone special? Anything that comes to mind about daylilies, just plop them on this thread. Give yourself sometime to think about it, you may realize how fascinating/meaningful your answer is?

I'll start:
Whenever I come across a daylily, I think of my stepmother, same goes with an iris. Both of these flowers make me think of the memories we shared, especially those memories gardening together. As a small child I used to think that both plants looked very similar (their foliage) and remembered often asking her which plants were either irises or daylilies.

I own a daylily that always reminds me of her.

The first iris I remember seeing of hers was at her house in Cambridge, NE. It was so long ago (I was about 5 years old), I remember them having some light purple. Believing they were The Common Purple iris (AKA: Alcazar)
Not only people give others signs, but plants do too.

A lot of my plants I have gotten in trades, or maybe purchased from some on NGA. I don't know everyone's face, but I think of them when I look at that daylily. To me, they are more than a lovely plant, but a connection to a friendship. I usually end up chatting with the people I buy or trade with, and feel like I know them. Is that silly? Of course, I have a couple of iris that came from my husband's grandmother's garden, so I do think of her.

I think of three people when i see our daylilys. First I think our our dear friend Evyonne 91 and still going strong I am 51 and she can run circles around me and i am healthy. She gave me my first bunch of daylilys. Packed them up with names on each bag and i just planted them not paying any attention to the names. Boy did i have alot to learn, but it started an addiction.
The two other people are Jessie and Terah George. We lost Terah a year ago in March. I guess that is why it has been so hard for me to get out in our beds to weed. I get in the bed that has just their cultivars in it and just cry. For two years Roger and i worked for them and i see her in them. Actually all the cultivars we have i see and hear her the knowledge she shared with me.
Finally Jessie man taught me so much about daylilies and never really ever talked about them. I'd ask him something about crossing them he would tell me a story about dogs, but he answered my questions within that story. We asked him about selling daylilies he told us a story about them selling quail.
Same thing by the story he told it answered our questions.
I think I'll call him tomorrow havent spoke to him in a while.
Fred have you heard from him?we havent heard from Jessie since he asked me to send the picture of BHS123.
Well that's my story and im sticking to it.
Every home needs a daylily, and every daylily needs a home.
