Hey guys,

I recently planted this young fruit tree. It has a bit of a curved trunk. Is it something to be concerned about? If so, any recommendation on remediation? A stake on each side to pull on the sections that are curved to try to straighten the trunk? Thanks in advance.

Here's what it looks like.

Welcome! to the forum!

If you are into cosmetic perfection, go ahead and stake it straight. Since it is a fruit tree and won't get dangerously big, let it grow and prune it so that it doesn't get lop-sided and enjoy it's ornamental qualities. Thumbs up

@CPPgardener,

Hello neighbor~

Thanks for the note. I'm quite new to planting fruit trees so I just wanted to see if it's a big deal. Doesn't sound like it'll be an issue then. I'm actually more concerned about gophers getting to the young roots. That's a different can of worms...

Cheer~

What fruit tree is it? I couldn't tell by looking at the leaves.

It's a Longan. A fruit that's popular in South East Asia. I believe it's in the same family as Lychee, but sweeter and the fruits are smaller in size. I decided to go for a few fruit trees that are less common.

They have an active chapter that meets/met at Cal State Fullerton at their arboretum.

Being in Walnut, you're right over the hill from CPP so "Howdy neighbor"!

Group hug

Yea I drop by the Farm Store and the Brewery from time to time.

CPP is also my Alma Mater, although I didn't live in Walnut at the time I attended.
