From the general conformation of this compound leaf (number of leaflets and gradation in leaflet size from top to bottom), I'm inclined to think this is a leaf of shagbark hickory (Carya ovata). That is one of the most common local hickory species (along with shellbark hickory, C. laciniosa). But since this tree was planted by the cemetery staff, other hickory species are possible. Not knowing the identification for certain (the tree is too young to have become 'shaggy' or produce nuts), I didn't want to place this photo on the page for a particular hickory species, to I put it here.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this ID?
