I decided to make this after I took a walk around outside this afternoon. It's a bit breezy (in the low 70s) Probably windy now than breezy, as I saw my south gate fly open as I was typing this.

Anyways, I have to say my least favorite dwarf is "Pele". I received it from @stildew a few years back. Planted it by my air conditioner, which get's lots of sun over there (on the south side of the house.) I hate so many things about it. Pele only bloomed twice, and makes 1 scape. It's one of the smallest db's I own. The rhizomes are also very small, and are easy to get burried by dirt when we either have a good rain, or a ton of snow during the previous winter. The bloom color isn't that great either. (Probably had it exposed to too much sun.)


I'm sorry @stildew Susan, it's not your fault. You're still a wonderful garden friend. I should've been more careful (choosing wisely) before purchasing the right db's at your iris sale. However, I do like "Lime Smoothie" though. It's a great db iris that you don't have to worry about dividing very much. It'll still bloom for you no mater how big or over crowded the clumps get.

Joshua. Pele' would probably be better off in a pot. In fact keeping in it's pot over winter wouldn't be a problem either. It should be fine as long as it's in a garage or shed to keep it protected.

Could the hot air of the air conditioner be affecting the clump?

I've had a few dwarf bearded iris I didn't like, but I think my biggest disappointment was Golden Eyelet.

The vendor's description and picture showed a bright yellow bloom with yellow to orangish beards. And was described as flowering very early. All characteristics I was looking for.

The blooms ended up yellow with blue beards. I know many people like that combination, but I'm just not drawn to it. As I recall I got a replacement, but same thing.

The iris encyclopedia shows one picture with blue beards, the rest with yellow beards, but also says it blooms late. So I don't know what the true Golden Eyelet looks like or if I got it. Regardless, I ended up getting rid of it.

I don't think the hot air from the air conditioner would be affecting the dwarf iris. I have other irises around the AC too. They're tb's, and they are doing excelent.

I can't remember the name, but it was a Blyth SDB. That is very unusual because his irises are lovely here unlike the TBs which do not always do well in our climate, while his medians are very nice.
