Thread OP

Hi all,

It may look a little like I missed the point of the forum but not at all! I just have a bit of a different question, an easy one for some knowledgeable person though I'm quite sure. The attached image, (I hope it attached), is of my great-grandfather taken in Winter 1918. I have been working on colouring him in, the plan is to frame up a colourised version as a gift for his grandson's 90th birthday.

The difficulty is I have absolutely no idea what plants are supposed to be shown on the backdrop, or what they realistically could be. Therefore I'm not well placed to apply colour to them. Any advice would be much appreciated,

Thanks for reading,

Dave C

Nice job.
No idea about the plants, but another thought...It's done.
Leave the backdrop black and white so the main focus, being the grandfather, pops.

You've done a marvelous job so far, What a dashing figure he is!

As for the plants, they look like they could be roses on the wall and some sort of shrubs or trees in the background. With plants you can never go wrong with shades of green! A lighter shade for the rose leaves and maybe a soft pink for the blooms. The trees would be a darker green so they recede into the background as they should. It will give more depth to the photo. Make the wall and the house a tan with a wood window frame and the walkway I'd leave gray. Just my thoughts. You're doing great on your own!

I agree. It's fine as is. I like the focus totally on him, and not on the plants.
