Hi,

I am about to bring my Meyer Lemon Tree inside for the winter (live in CT). Is there a need to prune a tall, thin tree like this? And would I do that now or wait until the spring?

Thank you

Right now? Don't touch it.
Meyer lemon trees are usually pruned very late in the Winter, and that's when you will get into action.
We'll get into the details when it's time but you'll need to make that plant "rounder" and "less leggy". Not a lot of stuff, but it has to be done to balance the tree.
In the meantime you should get a new support for the tree, preferably a shorter (up to the first twig) and much stouter one than that cane: a piece of rebar would fit the bill just nicely.

Finally is it just me or is the potting compost a bit dry? Citrus trees may be grown in hot places like California, Sicily and Brazil but they love having their soil always at very least moist: they are a crop with extremely high water requirements.

Thanks ElPollo. That is just some mulch on top, the soil is moist. I cut down the support to 1/3 the height.

Same goes for this Avocado tree. Cut the support down? And I am assuming pruning is not as necessary for this one.

Avocado trees are only pruned to keep their size in check: remember they can grow really large even as container plants if properly maintained.
You can leave that support in place for now.

Also remember that heavy pruning, the kind you will need to keep that tree at a manageable size, will most likely result in no avocados down the road: that's the price to pay and to the best of my knowledge right now there are no dwarf cultivars no dwarfing rootstocks for those whishing to grow avocado trees indoors.
