One photogenic snake. She would probably win snake photo contest (if there is one).

This is common grass snake. They can be 2 metres long but usually I can find small ones in my garden. I haven't seen them near the house at all in the last few years, but this year they have become very frequent guests and I have to catch them so people or animals don't kill them. I am glad that the population has recovered fine. People here on the forum usually have visitors like rabbit, deer, squirrel, but I have snakes as much as you want haha (which is not weird considering I live in a swamp).

Cute little baby snake! Not too many around here. The rat snakes here are sometimes mistaken for rattlers, so I wish people would leave them alone.

This one was aggressive so I had to hold it carefully so it wouldn't bite me. Yes she is small, but she can hurt you.
Unlike her, this one was very tame:

That one looks nasty! Is she poisonous? @OtherUncleWill

Snakes started coming out here because it's getting warmer every day. Few days ago:

I know nothing about European reptiles Luka. So of course I had to look them up! Hilarious! Europe doesn't have many venomous snakes, but all are native to Croatia. Lucky you! Hilarious!

2 the most dangerous one can be found here in the surrounding hills. I saw Vipera berus many times. I never saw nose-horned viper. And I don't want to. Hilarious!
I would like to find Elaphe quatuorlineata. Biggest European snake. It's living here in the swamp area. I never saw it. It's rare.

Lots of excitement this morning!
The barn swallows that nest under my carport were raising Cain so I looked out to see what was going on.
A snake (about 2' long I would guess) was after the eggs, reaching down from the ceiling from between the vinyl siding! Blinking

I can't say what species it was because I hadn't put my glasses on yet.

Normally I let nature take its course but the swallows get special consideration so I discouraged it with a broom. The reptile is still in the siding and I hope it finds lots of prey that doesn't eat mosquitoes.

Surprise tonight as I picked strawberries:

She was stuck in a net that protected the strawberries. I barely released her without injury. After a couple of photos, I took her away from a populated place (in a swamp).

It might be a Grass Snake but that's a bit of a guess on my part.

I found what was a beautiful Smooth Green snake at work that someone murdered. Sad It saddens me some ignorant people kill every snake they see.

Ignorance, pure ignorance! And fear, maybe. I once had a friend who wouldn't walk outside the fenced part of my 2-acre place. Scared of snakes, was raised that way and didn't want to change. My place has less snake sitings than lots in the nearby city, because the city has more rainfall and more creeks. When we do spot a snake, there is a 95% chance that it is a harmless rat snake. I try, but some don't want to believe the truth about the local snakes. I've seen rat snakes that people around here deliberately killed. They see a snake and it's automatically a rattler or something in their minds. But it never is. Not once have I see a rattler out here.

People believe some crazy things about snakes. Around here many still believe in the mythical Hoop Snake and other wild stories and, try as you might, you can't convince them otherwise.

My SIL works in an assisted living facility, he has one resident that carries a small snake in his pocket just to scare the other residents and staff. He tries to convince them to put their hand in his pocket for a "surprise". Hilarious!

Yes. Should be Grass Snake. Some natrix for sure.
Fear and bad reputation (for no reason) are the main reason for killing them. The elders teach the children to kill them without mercy. Unfortunately, I was raised that way too, but when I overcame my fear a couple of years ago, I started rescuing them and taking them to the swamp away from people and domestic animals. Now if someone close to me sees a snake they don't kill it at first sight but call me to try to catch it. Smiling
Even worse is that we have a legless lizard that often dies because people mistake it for a snake, and it is very useful because it sometimes feeds on venomous snakes.

Yes she is...haven't seen her yet this year but have seen a smaller Mz. Annie and Blackie. Mz. Annie is a white oak snake and Blackie is a black snake. Cornelia...red corn snake also comes to visit. She ended up in my living room last year or the year before...looked right pretty against the lime green walls 😏😯😏

Mz. Annie is a beauty!
I really hope to see a picture of Cornelia. I haven't seen a Red Corn Snake since I was a small child. You are so lucky!
I had a Black Snake that used to like to come into an old farm house I lived in. Have you ever seen a snake on linoleum? It's hilarious! Rolling on the floor laughing They can't get traction so they have to slither frantically to move just a little. I felt a little bad for laughing but not too much.

This little gopher snake tried so hard to convince me he was a rattlesnake, coiling up and pretending to strike (with his mouth closed), but his head is wrong for a pit viper, and the closed-mouth strikes were a giveaway rather than a deterrent. Still, I didn't want to traumatize him too bad, so after removing him from the plant I was trying to repot, I turned him loose back into the yard.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.
