Team Natural or Team Artificial?

By Trish
December 9, 2012

Historically all indoor winter decor was natural. With the invention of artificial greenery, Team Artificial was created. I'll even allow that some bat for both teams. Whatever the case for your family, come share your holiday traditions of decorating with us!

I love the smell and scent of a natueral tree. When the lights heat up the branches after dark, it's enhanced even more.

Natural for me, since forever.
But as I age, artificial is sounding better.
I do things for myself and natural is getting harder....

This was my tree solution this year.
Not natueral but
Lightweight
Easy on lights and balls

DD and SIL will put up a tree from a farm.

I like that!

One year, I stacked my still-unpacked moving boxes into a pyramid against one wall (my apt didn't have room for all my stuff, and i didnt' have storage), and strung lights and garland on them. Hilarious!

We've always had real trees and cedar or fir trimmings, love the smell. Last year and this, I've moved the tree outside on the deck and decorated it for the birds - lights, popcorn, bird seed, flower heads, and berries.

Jo Ann, I like your tree solution and Bonehead I love what you are doing for the birds. I hang apples slathered in peanut butter and seeds in my trees, too.

I have a son who has allergies and though we had real trees and natural swags and wreaths for a few years, he spent every one of those holidays sick with asthma. Poor little guy began to dread Christmas until it was all finally resolved. No more dried nature inside. So now I have reasonable facsimiles. Close as I can get to real, the tree is full of them.

We cut our own tree with the grandkids in tow. They really look forward to it each year. But have a little bit of artificial garlands - they go bad so easily and drop needles everywhere, and are so hard to get her in Texas.

We made "ground pine" garlands one year.We gathered it in the woods on country property.
Only once. They do make a mess.
