Thread OP

Hello everyone,

I have a hilly border I wish to do groundcover on, and decided to go with Sedum spurium 'John Creech'. Never planted sedum before (or much of anything with any success really).

I live in Northern California, Zone 9b, doesn't freeze or frost in winter, and mostly rains in winter maybe a bit in spring.

So before I buy a whole pallet of baby sedums, can someone please advise me about planting time? I want these to get a good head start so thinking plant now before rainy season? Or should I wait till spring?

Is sprinkling a bunch of seeds on ground outside and cross my fingers a sane option?

Thanks so much for your time!
Billy

Hi firing, and welcome to the Sedum forum. I would plant at the beginning of your rainy season. This would give the young plants time to develop health root systems before summer heat arrives. How big an area are you planting?

Thanks Valleylynn! Then I should get busy it's beginning to rain here.

It's like a 4 inch border maybe 70 feet long.

BTW, does anyone have a favorite online store to buy young plants from?

Much thanks!
