I have a few of these planted, they seem healthy but are laying spread out .
Not a problem visually where they are just wondering if this is normal for them?

That looks like a Salvia greggii "Furman's Red" (yes?) which can sprawl at times. They can benefit from pruning out the oldest, longest woody stems and will put out new upright growth from the center. Go easy on water. If your soil is quite rich, don't fertilize at all. If it's lean, fertilize once, lightly, in the spring. Too much water and/or fertilizer will make them floppy. Hummingbirds love them. Thumbs up

Thanks I had been giving it extra fertilizer because of the spreading. I will discontinue that and see how it goes.
Everything is do for a pruning which I usually do at the end of November.

Ah, that's probably it. Sometimes plant needs are counterintuitive! I suggest not fertilizing them in the spring, either. Residual fertilizer will affect the growth for quite awhile. Since the plants are young, light pruning only. If your goal is to get it more upright, perhaps remove the longest, floppiest stems all the way at the base and leave everything else. That's a tough plant, it doesn't require much care at all. Thumbs up
