I have become addicted to crinums! I have ordered several off the internet. I live on low lying land thats either in a drought or a flood, so need some tough plants. I never knew there was such a variety. I wish they weren't nearly impossible to find for sale in person. I can't wait until they come in the mail-it is a perfect time to plant them-wasnt going to plant them in 100+ weather.

Just curious (or nosy). And lazy to look for myself. So anyway, are there a lot of online crinum sellers? What kind of prices are you seeing? Pricey? Do you know where the bulbs are grown (propagated?)

Amazingly I have managed to keep one alive in a pot. Got it in a swap maybe 4 or 5 years ago or I don't know when. It was large and I didn't have a place to plant it so I popped it into a large pot. Poorly placed in an area I rarely wandered by. Time moved on and rains came. Big time. So as I was walking in that area I started smelling that nasty smell and found a drowning crinum. When I summoned the courage to unpot the crinum, some of it was too mushy to survive however it had made babies when I hadn't been paying attention. Repotted the babies. As years have passed the bulbs have put out leaves (straps?) but not many blooms. Had some long straps all summer but due to my failure to water it or anything the greenery disappeared. However, I saw the other day that this poor bulb has made babies. Who knows what will happen next.
I feel like I should probably de-pot mom and babies but then what?
So that's my crinum story. I know we have other Texans who are successful crinum growers and can probably give you some helpful advice should you want it.
I'm just being chatty. Would love to know what crinums you've ordered.

Don't hold out on us. Please tell us what you ordered and from whom? Are they here yet?

I like the Crinums for their easy care. I don't have a large selection but find some bloom more readily than others.

True. All the ones I've given away have bloomed a lot. Mine not so much. 🙄

I haven't checked in a long time but eBay has a seller by the name of Nestor White that sells crinum of all sizes. The bigger the bulb of course the bigger it hits your pocketbook. His plants are true to name and he has bookoodles of them. I can't come up with his eBay name right now. I might have to go check...

Ouch... Not sure but I may have lost all of mine. I am seeing no fresh growth.

Our lows neared zero and stayed below freezing both day and night for a few days. Afraid that may have done it.

I had dug all of mine to relocate them. I had them potted in large containers. No doubt they would have done better in ground.

All of my crinums in containers were killed. I also had some planted in the ground. Probably about 20% of those were killed and a couple more are so sick they probably won't make it. Others are growing well. I'm still having some plants of the bulbous/rhizomatous type try to put out new growth, but those that start out struggling are not have much success in recovering. That's mostly those grown in containers, but I lost an iris that's been growing in that container for about 15 years with no issues. It's a total loss. For most of these I'm talking about huge containers of the kind trees come in at the nursery. Most with 2.5-3' diameters. Most were well established in the containers for several years. Daylilies were variable. Some seem to have had no problem with the low temps, some just didn't return (a couple weren't surprises - think Tusk and Aldersgate) but a lot more have attempted to grow and then given up. Maybe about 50% are growing well.

Oh my gosh, y'all I am so sorry!! I only have one that's potted right now and I checked on it just 2 days ago. It's doing fine, I think having fallen leaves over it and NOT having the prolonged freezes that TX had probably helped. We had maybe 2-3 days of the freeze and it really flattened the foliage but everything is still alive. Now we will have our annual Easter cold snap (20 deg with wind chill) and it will decimate my lilies, pear, and peach trees.
Donald I lost Aldersgate many yrs ago, I'll have to check Tusk to see what it looks like.

My crinums have sent up leaves so they survived. They are all in ground. The jagus haven't bloom since 2014 and menehune have never bloomed for me. I may move the jagus to a sunnier spot.
Walter Flory bloomed last year. C. Americanum is a reliable bloomer, so we'll see if they will bloom.

So sorry, Donald, losing them that you've nurtured for so many years.

My menehune died in the big Texas Freeze. I had it in a pot when we moved and had not decided where to put it in the ground. I thought it would be ok in the sheltered place on the patio, but alas it was not....I gave it a month to see if it would come back, but nothing. Checked in the pot for anything and there was nothing.

So sorry, @teacup754. My menehune is still growing but no blooms. How did you get yours to bloom?

There were 4 scapes that opened and missed them all.

The jagus, Americanum, Ellen B and milk and wine have not shown up either.

Mine never bloomed it was very small

Are you guys still looking for crinums? I've thinned out "Walter flory" and the red and white striped ones, (I've been calling them Stars and Stripes but not sure if that's their name).

Probably not the right time to thinned but my son was able to dig some out.
