I grow sprouts year around! They are a mix of broccoli, radish, broccoli, alfalfa. So easy and yummy!

I like alfalfa sprouts on sandwiches. What kind of sprouting jar is that? I've been thinking of growing sprouts but I don't want to do it with screens and all that.

This is just a regular mason jar with a stainless steel screen lid. I do swear by it though. I have made 300 batches with success and only one batch went badly. This is with rinsing the sprouts only once daily and putting them upside down to drain the rest of the day.
I used to just use a mason jar with a scrap cut from new nylons as the lid, but had many batches go bad.

Is the screen lid something you buy or cut screen to fit inside a lid?

Check out this website, (it's safe), for info about growing your micro greens.

During the 70's I lived in a commune and learned about growing alfalfa sprouts. They are quite delicious on sandwiches and I think anything you can grow yourself is superb.

Now they have kit's for growing sprouts, but the way I learned to do it was with the Mason Jar and stainless steel screen. I like the idea of the new plastic screen too, but the main thing is to keep your jar and screen sanitized after each batch in order to have a safe growing environment.

Also, if you tilt the jar in a drying rack the air can circulate much better. Hope the website and this info helps. Happy sprouting! Green Grin! Smiling

Thanks for the link. I'm hoping to find the screen lids. Mesh, not plastic, and will try Amazon.

I just used stainless steel mesh screen lids on Amazon with any small mason jar. Works great!

I've looked at them on Amazon. The one I like most has two jars and a white stand for tilting. Thanks Zenni and Slowcala!

I definitely prefer that the sprouts are organic and will look at the health store for seeds.

Good article. Everything is described in detail for beginners. I have long been going to buy these wonderful mason jars for sprouting seeds. Now I will definitely buy it. But I will probably choose with metal stainless lids. Thanks.

I agree I think metal covers will be more hygienic than plastic. Although this is just my opinion.

I ate sprouted wheat. It has a sweetish flavor and it is pleasant to the touch. But I didn't try to grow it.
