I have a 6ft tall cold hardy avocado tree that I purchased in the spring. I live in NYC area and it did great outside all summer/fall. It has now been inside for a few months and has been dropping leaves at a rapid pace. I added a humidifier to try to help. I am not sure what else to do.

Could it be too cold by the window? Not enough sun? Shock from move inside?

There was also a bit of mold forming in the mulch on top of the soil. I removed this and didn't think it was related, but not certain.

Also a meyer lemon tree in the pic which has dropped some leaves, but not as bad.


Any ideas appreciated.

It is not too cold inside. "Too cold" would be something like below 32 degrees F.
A humidifier probably isn't enough to make or break the plant's happiness.

Hello, this is a normal reaction to being moved inside. Mine does this every year, and my lime tree also. Much due to the reduction of available light. You might think that placing it directly by a window that it will receive sufficient light; but it doesn't. Consider additional lighting. I would also say that wilting like that indicates that you aren't watering enough. Mine does this when it gets dry. As for a humidifier, this will help the lemon; the avocado not so much. I use a humidifier on my lime, and it helps the leaf drop.
