Camellias like Cabbages!

Camelia of unknown variety. This is a very old shrub in our yard, has probably been here 15-20 years.

It's similar to 'Professor Sargent', but the flower looks pinker and 'cuter'. It looks more like Nuccio's 'Jingle Bells' (which is still in commerce via Nuccio's Nursery, but they don't supply a photo). There's a photo at the ACCS web site—I can't link to it directly, but you can search by name.

Or it could just be an old anemone-form camellia, of which there have been many. 'Rose Anemone' is a name I've seen used (or misused?) to name a similar-looking flower.

Here's a photo of a camellia growing in my neighborhood that looks a lot like yours:

I loved seeing your camellia banner... what fun!

Wonderful to see such lush growth on a camellia bush. Up here in the frozen north, this is a plant I see only in plant conservatories, where growing conditions never seem to produce such an abundance of blooms. Beautiful banner.

Thank you all for the nice comments and thank you Virginia for the leads on the possible identity. Here in Georgia camellias are a standard landscaping plant. The American Camellia Society has its garden called Massee Lane in Fort Valley, GA about 10 miles from where I used to live. Come February it is the hottest ticket in town because that is when the public wakes up to nice weather, but the gardens are beautiful right now. Their camellias have been growing forever and most are ten feet tall and massive. Covered in bloom they are spectacular!

If you get to go to that Massee Lane Gardens in Feb, hope you will post pics of those spectacular blooms on those 10ft camellias.

@mmolyson
Never heard of Nuccio's, but glad to find them just ~100 mi north of us in Alta Dena, Ca.
https://www.nucciosnurseries.c...
I'll contact them today & see if they have a camelia like yours.
It's the prettiest, imho. Smiling
I checked their catalog, and 'Jingle Bells' is not listed.
But hope they have one similar.

Also, learned more about camelia care, especially in pots, as
we have 2. I'll re-pot them in azaelea mix after they finish blooming,
trim the roots & plants, make sure they have best partial shade
& protection from wind, and give them best fertilizer. Thumbs up
