W O W I just ordered fewer than I wanted,perennial plants ( Bluestone and Romence)
When did perennial prices double.?
Shocked to realize my garden plant needs will be fewer.

Prices have really gone up the past few years, Jo.....I'm ordering half of what I used to order.....also, doing more glads & dahlias....trying to save the dahlias this winter, but I'm not too optimistic....

I've ordered Daylilies from 3 sources. I've probably over spent but I have told my Son and Daughter that I was going to spend part of the inheritance on plants and they were OK with that. I spent much more last summer but I wouldn't do that in 2021 because my garden beds are pretty full.

Mine are full, too, but I manage to squeeze a few more plants in....I did order 3 iris a few weeks ago.....I have a garden where I dug out 3 hydrangeas ...no blooms, or too few of them...so, I do have space where they were......

I'm not ordering any plants this year because: my garden spots are full, and I might be moving, which means I will have to dig all my plants up and move them! I'm still thinking about ordering a brugmansia, this can be grown in a pot.

Good luck if you move...I've lived in this house for 45 years......can't think about moving! I do have too many gardens.......trying to put in plants that take care of themselves.

I have also planted low maintenance perennials.
I am just too old to fuss with anything anymore.
I have a weeder who comes 3 times a year. It's expensive but the end result is just great.

Yes, they are.......My college worker will be doing an internship this summer....I have to find someone else....my grandkids are not interested.....working on the blueberry farm is about all they can manage.

Have you tried Preen and Preen Extended Care? The also have one for vegetables. I absolutely love the Extended Care.

They key to no weeding is very careful preparation of the beds before planting. When I moved to where I live now, I went around four months digging out the two garden beds and getting them ready for planting. All the while my plants are sitting around in pots. About the only things I have to pull are the oak saplings that come from the million acorns my neighbors tree puts out every year. No grass or weeds. I also use a fairly thick layer of mulch.

Weeds are my main crop........no, I don't use any chemicals, Arlene, because my well is right by the gardens.....my son did use a poison ivy killer last year because it had taken over every garden.....It really bothered me to do that, but you couldn't even walk near the gardens without getting PI.....it was that infested.

Marilyn, my back yard kind of looks like what you would see if you strolled around here in our forests. Big pine trees and all the weeds and vines that accompany the undergrowth. I am fighting poison ivy, blackberries, poison oak, and where the sun comes through, saw brier and poke sallet. I don't have anything planted back there, and since I'm on city water, I have been using weed killers and hacking vines out ever since I moved here.
I don't use anything in the front because part of my garden is a pollinator garden. I'm very careful when I do use brush killers in the back.

I guess we all are fighting some invasive plants! Forgot the grape vines trying to smother the house.....I guess all we can do is keep cutting, although I'm putting down black plastic over the area where the mugwort is......horrible stuff.....

I am not familiar with mugwort but have faced the evil Houttuynia, a war I lost despite covering with black plastic for months. I'd suggest a year but it's of no use if the roots simply expand as mine did. Sorry.

How I wish I could say it worked, but it didn't. You could try Ortho's Poison Ivy and Tough Brush Killer. Do it on a dry day and Don't saturate the soil to protect your well. Works best on new leaves but it will kill the plant, no guarantee on spreading roots. I use it full strength.

Arlene, I've used this product on my poison ivy. Sometimes takes two applications, but eventually kills it. Works on blackberries, too. Now I've found NOTHING that works on saw brier. The vine from Hell!

I used to use a fire wand but that still won't kill the roots.

Yes, that's what my son sprayed on the PI & it took 2 tries.....he also used it once on the mugwort, nothing happened, so he switched to a brand that included mugwort in the plants it killed....haha.
