I have been successively sowing the seeds from my A. besseae x magnificum (x papillilaminum? x Mehani?) for about 3 weeks now as they ripen. The first seedlings are starting to emerge! It will be very interesting to see what grows out of these.

If any of the xMehani took, the seedlings would be a complex hybrid that includes Anthurium besseae x magnificum x (magnificum x {radicans x luxurians} x crystallinum)

A. xMehani looks beautiful - do you plan on selling the berries in the future? And if so, would they ship to Europe?

No, I won't be selling these because they are the first ones I have ever gotten on this plant. I am not certain they will be viable...A. 'Mehani' is a complex hybrid that was made in the early to mid 2000's in India, its parentage (from the breeder who made it) is A. magnificum x (A. radicans x luxurians) x crystallinum. There seems to be contention among other 'professional' anthurium breeders (I am not a pro just a hobbyist) as to whether A. radicans x luxurians actually produces fertile pollen. A long while ago someone made the statement that it was not a fertile cross, and this was picked up and passed around until it because a 'standard truth'. Like so many things in the plant world LOL. But apparently, even though no one else seems to have ever gotten any progeny from that cross, it was successful for this person hence we have Mehani. Mehani was only produced for a very short period of time in tissue culture here in the US after its initial import. The last seem to have been produced in 2011. Its sister plant that was imported and put into production at the same time, Nikki (same cross but the last plant in the queue is A. grande instead of crystallinum) was produced for an even shorter period, I think until 2009. I have never seen Nikki, and no one seems to own one anymore, if they do, they don;t know its a Nikki I guess. It doesn't help that now there is ANOTHER A. Nikki, an andreanum hybrid with reddish spathes. So you say Nikki and people think you are talking about that.

How very exciting! I have never grown anthurium from seed, always cuttings, and these are such beautiful (potential) parent plants. The veining on the besseae x magnificum is fabulous. I guess it will take time to tell which the other parent would be.

It could be both LOL. Anthurium will take pollen from multiple donors on the same spadix.
