Wondering what new plant adventures you would be tempted by, given that we all have enough (too many) plants as it is

I've never had a lipstick plant -Aeschynanthus (sp?) and can't remember seeing one at the big box, ever. I'd be tempted. .they seem reliable.
I love my medium size ponytail palm, but would definitely buy one of the little 4 inch pot with a small cluster of baby ones. I gave one away some years ago. (Though, now I have two young cats who would nibble.. it would have to live at my workplace)
My grocery store Phalaenopsis' are struggling this year. None have yellow color- I'm tempted to buy a nice blooming yellow one, if I see the right one.
Variegated Ficus elastica sure looks pretty. I've never had a rubber tree.

So OK, nothing terribly exciting, I admit. I have seen enough complaints (or tried them myself and failed) to rule out certain types (no Maranta, no Calathea, no Anthurium) and also don't want any more big plants- any more big would have to live at work, where I've already stashed all except my Coffee plant.

Anything tempting you?

I really can;t think of a single specimen plant. I tend to know them when I see them ha ha! I do know that, its not the 'it' plants that are always popping up. Why would I want something that everyone else already has, and that the price is being totally overinflated due to this interest LOL?

Baobab tree - Adansonia digitata

Full grown please. Size and space will definitely be an issue.

I'd be tempted by a Aucuba japonica, Spotted Laurel.

Actually what I really want, is an Amherstia nobilis.

Well, I know what Aucuba is, they are pretty.

The usual plant that I've been lusting over for several years now... a brugmansia. Yeah, I really need another oversized tropical to have to over winter inside the house!

Honestly, I always find myself wanting a big leaf philodendron but they're so expensive and I have too many plant problems already LOL

Either that or Alocasia but I really don't have the conditions to make them thrive

Brugmansia Lynda.. I do not overwinter a whole plant, but I root fat cuttings in fall, keep under lights.. Once out for spring, will take off. Well, confession, I did have one that did not thrive, so was small enough to dig, pot, and bring in.
Alocasia, I put outside in a huge pot. Full sun, plenty of water, stand back. Inside, I don't try.

Ok, Sally You convinced me to buy one. I will take cuttings for the winter! I plan for it to be a potted plant for outside in the summer.

My brugs were trees until this winter. They had not frozen back for 3 winters, now they are sticks. They almost always come back from the roots here though.

I love this thread. It is like planning a vacation in the midst of COVID! I have tripled my houseplants through the COVID year and continue to browse catalogs. I would love to get a Thaumatophyllum Bipinnatifidum, but don't know if I have enough space for it. Would also like Alocasia maybe... And I am thinking collecting Hoyas might be a great hobby. All over the place, yes!
And I cant say enough great things about Brugmansias. They are so easy to propagate and hummers and bees love them, they are fragrant and look spectacular. Go for it everyone. Buy the peach or red one they are lovely.

If you are growing a red brug (Brugmansia sanguinea) you must live in a cooler climate than Florida

I'm told the Thaumatophyllum Bipinnatifidum Hope is a smaller variety.

Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum.... That's a new one on me. It looks like a Selloum. Catalogue of Life has never heard of it. Now I'm curious - do you have more information? A different name?

According to Google info - it is the 'new' name for the Philodendron selloum.

According to Catalogue of Life, Philodendron Selloum and P. bipinnatifidum var. lundii are both synonyms for Philodendron lundii. No mention of Thaumatophyllum except T. spruceanum is a synonym for Philodendron goeldii. That's a weird looking one! I think you should change your mind about your dream plant.

Much as I wish everyone could learn Latin names, I more and more just feel using every Latin name ever known or suspected, plus common names, is the only way to know what anyone is talking about. When I see a university page like this, I assume they are using the most current accepted name

This is the time of year for another hobby-- going to the biggest local greenhouse I have within a half hour, drooling over many plants, being shocked at their prices, and poo pooing them all as too fussy, too common, too weird, too something..

I'm planning ( hopefully! ) a trip with two Master Gardener friends to a huge greenhouse in nearby Conway, supposed to be acres of greenhouses, each one dedicated to a particular plant! One for succulents, one for roses, one for native plants, you get the idea. I really need to save some money toward this trip.... I suspect my will power will fail me!
