I really like this banner! We live in SD, but haven't seen a single pheasant yet. Shrug!

Hey dirt, I've got a question: where did you take this photo? In SD?

I wondered if that is a wild pheasant, or one that someone was raising?

No, that's a wild one--we have quite a few around here.
Pic was taken out in the 'wet lands' north of that gigantic salty puddle...

a pheasant in the snow
Thumb of 2019-01-09/dirtdorphins/b413a4
it was a little deep for him walking, but he kept on (I have a lot of very uncompelling photos of his journey) and on, finally approached the hill...
Thumb of 2019-01-09/dirtdorphins/91958f
where he contemplated his decent...took forever to get going...then a pretty quick slide down

I did get a bunch more of him strolling away from me down the ditch, but I'll spare you

Love how colorful he is, whatever the background. I did a little reading about the diet of pheasants. I wasn't surprised to learn they are omnivores, but was a little taken aback to learn that they eat snails. I doubt the one you photographed on its snowy stroll was hunting those.

Ha, ha! Enjoyed the photos of his journey. They are an introduced species (from China), but so common, many think they are native.
