I'd like to hear some input on this variety of zinnia. In some pictures , it looks quite a bit like the Starlight Rose variety of zinnia, which I have tried, and wasn't very impressed with, because there was so little pink in it. But in other pictures , like those on the Penn State Trial Gardens website, the bicolor is just beautiful--sort of cherry red with a lighter pink star in it, along with some white with a very noticeable pink star. Also, there seem to be VERY few places that even offer this bicolor variety, which also has me wondering, since the profusion series seems quite popular. Can someone enlighten me?

Boy am I late to your question !
Love Profusion.
Have been starting indoors in mid-March for the last 5 years, and find by the time I plant out in the garden late May, there are buds forming.
In the early years I kept notes on which colors germinated best. Red came in last place.
I kept a photo journal on the most prolific sized plants with the most blooms. Red came in last place.
I suspect pink, red, and the mix of the two aren't favored by nurseries.
Last year I didn't bother buying red seeds.
Also...I have been saving Profusion seeds. I recorded that they were true to last year's plant, but not all of my saved seeds sprouted. I was very surprised, as Profusion is listed as a hybrid.

Hi there!

I grew profusion bicolor cherry for my plant sale this spring. I ordered them from GeoSeed. I searched through my pictures but can only find one which I'll attach. It was a cute little flower but I honestly enjoy growing the taller zinnias more. I grow summer pinwheels from Renee's Garden for the pink and white bicolor flowers.

So beautiful, Mollie.
I, on the other hand, love profusion. They have a front row seat in my perennial beds, as added color once the perennial color evaporates (left side of walkway) :

Kathy, I love profusion zinnias too, because they never get powdery mildew like the other varieties of zinnias I've grown!
