Hello All,

I have an area where I want to plant a few single white peonies. I am not really interested in a tree peony or Itoh hybrid. What is your favorite single white peony? If it has a decent vase life, even better.

Thanks.

I grow only one single white peony - Krinkled White, it is excellent!

Why limiting yourself to only singles? Miss America is semi-double and super nice. There are some peonies with strong stems that do not require staking in white with yellow center.

Alex, I love Miss America, too.
Another semi- double white that I really love is Minnie Shaylor.

Violet Dawson is a nice single white that does well.

I saw Crinkled Linens on a garden tour and have planted one in my garden but it hasn't bloomed yet.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions. I have the semi-double and double whites in other areas of my garden; however, for this area I feel the simplicity of the single form will work best.

I like 'Chiffon Clouds' , can be pink when newly open, and becomes white afterwards.

"Krinkled White" is definitely floriferous.

"White innocence" can grow as high as a people, is unique and outstanding, however, the flower is not very large.
Prof. Saunders with "White innocence":

Some white peaonia species and some woodland peony have very attractive foliage, are very unique and attractive too. I would highly recommend them, such as "Early windflower", Paeonia japonica.

Jan Van Leeuwen, Requiem and Garden Peace (!) with red stems - they are all quite nice, but certainly Krinkled White comes to mind first when thinking about single white peony. Garden Peace will need a lot of space, but it has more interesting foliage when not in flower. I am not sure how it is behaving at the end of hot summer, though.
Is it going to be in full sun?

I've ordered Lotus Queen for the fall. Can't personally speak to what it looks like but I felt it had an ethereal quality in pictures. Pictures can be very misleading though!

Thank you for all the ideas. I really am liking White Innocence--it is really different and certainly anemone looking. Chiffon Clouds is also beautiful.

I'm with you guys. Krinkled White is my best performer but I really like the suggestions of White Innocence and Chiffon Clouds as some great alternatives.

Pardon the phone screenshot but that was my five year old plant before I divided it.

There are a lot of elegant single white Saunders peonies out there. Tranquil Dove has always been a favourite but it does open with a pink picotee that fades away.

I love White Innocence too, and grow one of mine amongst Cotinus 'Grace' though this year I will either have to prune Grace or move W.I.

Not a very good pic but the peony at the front of W I is Circus Circus and you can see how much taller W I is!

For single whites I agree with Nick & Alex - hard to beat Krinkled White but I also love Claire de Lune and while it is strictly speaking a semi-double, Nicola is a good one.

I have only 1 white, Crinkled Linens. Note that this is a different peony than Krinkled White. I may have to get KW some day--it sounds like a good one!

Well, thanks to Frank's call to reality photo, I believe White Innocence may be a wee bit too tall for my planned space. What a dilemma as I really like WI so I'm scouting for another location that would be a perfect fit for such a tall lass. All of which means I will be purchasing more peonies than originally planned (said no-one never). Smiling

I also like the hedge idea by SoCalGardenNut.

Thank you, everyone, for introducing me to so many lovely single white peonies.
