Hi, I am getting some drumstick alliums this year and wonder if they reproduce when they are underground making more alliums? Thanks!

Where I live, my alliums reproduce. I believe they do by seed. Where you live I don't know. (Different zones)

Interesting. I was wondering if they divide like lilies (offshoots of the bulb underground like garlic cloves). But you are saying seeds.

I apologize for the delay in response. To answer your question, yes, chives do make offshoots (bulblets). They are however in the same family as chives. Alliums spread naturally via seed or via bulb. I have some that grow naturally mixed with chives in a flowerbed full of spices. The bumblebees love them both. Especially the oregano flowers.

Drumsticks (Allium sphaerocephalon) reproduce mightily underground. They make dozens to hundreds of tiny little bulblets from the
original bulb. If left to grow on, the bulblets could take several years to get large enough to bloom. You will also likely never be
rid of them.
