Thread OP

I'm trying to prune a persimmon tree that is about 30 years old, has never been properly pruned, and produces very little fruit. The tips I've found seem to be for younger or consistently maintained trees. Can anyone suggest how to go about pruning this tree in its current state? (Some cuts made already on the right side of the tree in the photo and a lot of water sprouts.) Thanks in advance!

I see a lot of growth I would prune out on that tree but would need to come around and show you what to do, which is kinda hard these days. D'Oh!

I am going to try Photoshop those pictures to show you the cut lines but cannot guarantee anything since I am terrible with graphics. D'Oh! D'Oh!

One thing I can tell you is not to throw away that wood: persimmon is one of the best firewoods around and it's always rare.

Thanks for giving it a try! I don't know if you would be able to describe the types of things or one or two points that you would take off? And thanks for the tip on firewood, will definitely save going forward.

This is what I would do, cut where the red mark is. I would open up the tree so more sun can come in.
