I have very minimal experience with Philodendrons to offer any help. My mother is a big Philodendron collector but has been having nonstop troubles with her P. hastatums. Hoping you guys can help. I'll have her do a writeup:

"My silver sword keeps turning yellow. Ive tried watering when the soil is dry. It was under a grow bulb and started to yellow so I moved it closer to a south facing window but not direct light and now its really yellow and droopy and lost a leaf. This is the 2nd one I have lost like this. The roots are not wet and it is in a chunky mix."

Any thoughts?
She has a lot of huge beautiful philodendrons, but the hastatums just aren't working out.

She's refrained from any fertilizer since she bought it. Both were smaller plants, so weren't climbing yet.

She said the yellowing began about a week ago. It seemed healthy before that and suddenly started yellowing. The leaves are quickly yellowing, drooping and falling, but the stem is solid and it feels well anchored in the pot. The previous plant was the same way. It was much larger and seemed healthy, then suddenly yellowed and died off fast.

Could be a soil fungus or something like that. Unless she wants to unapt it and just take a quick check of the roots Any chance of cold damage?

She said it hasn't been near any cold drafts. Here's some pictures:

That soil looks pretty dry to me. Is that typically how it looks?

The roots look good....but it does seem dry like Deanna said. I took a photo of one of mine for you...I always lose a few bottom leaves in winter. I have hastatum growing in probably 6 different locations in the GH, the plants are all ages and sizes...this is a 'young' one
