That's just stunning, Mike. A magnificent plant or plants. I need to mount some of my Dens on to an oak branch and see how they do.

You really should post these pictures over on the Orchids forum. There's a thread for blooms for each month.

not a real orchid-y guy...I dont want to hang out with 'them'
not surprisingly, to me..some planties appear to take on traits of the plants they collect. Often cycad folks are as nasty as their plants ..Orchidies seem to be a bit too showy. Rolling on the floor laughing

LOL, I'd hang out with Orchids anytime, especially a gorgeous plant like that one in your photo ... I'd love to have a few growing in the oaks on our property ... but plants of the spiny, thorny variety like Cacti are way too prickly for me and I keep my distance. Green Grin!

LOL, I love bromeliads but not the ones with spiny, pointy parts. Shrug!

Mike, you have such a beautiful location and your design skills are amazing. Your dendrobium is beautiful and looks like it has grown there naturally. Creating something that looks like it just happened is pretty special. You don't have to be an orchid nerd to show off your blooming plants, some people do grow for perfect flowers and others just for fun and ambiance like you have created.

What a beautiful display Mike, thanks for sharing.

This plant was my Aunt's dendrobium nobile , she passed in 2012, it was so dried up and neglected hanging in her carport in this same wire basket. I remember my mom asking why I wanted that dead plant.

I now have started other plants from this one. It is blooming good this year, the cold drier winter was good for it.
This is one side, and the second photo is taken from a distance of the other side of the trellis.

Beautiful, Sherri. Those nobile type of Dendrobium do go dormant in winter, and like to stay dry and cool, so they like the colder winters for sure. I wonder if maybe your Aunt's plant was dormant when you got it? They do look pretty dead, with no leaves and just the fat canes hanging all over. But then the flowers appear like magic on those canes.

I have 3 plants of Den. anosmum, another dormant type like this. They're just starting to think about putting out buds.

Sherri, Wow ... that is also an amazing Dendrobium!! I'd love to mount orchids in some of the many oak trees on our property but years ago when I had orchids hanging in trees, the squirrels ate them and we have hundreds more squirrels here than when we lived up in Daytona. I wish I could find an effective squirrel deterrent! Grumbling

Lin, Squirrels don't like things growing in "Their" trees that's for sure. I've not had trouble with them eating my orchids, but they like hibiscus flowers.

Elaine, my Aunt passed in August, the plant was fried from the sun and lack of water. This year we did have a pretty dry cool winter so it looks much better than last year when we had a warmer wetter winter. I like plants that do well on neglect, I'm good at that. Whistling

Lovely, Mike. That looks like my Den. anosmum. If it is, head out there in the morning and give it a sniff. Mine smell like raspberries.

I wish I could put these in trees outside...but too cold here but you have given me a fabulous idea of mounting them to the totems and in the bauhinia and plumeria trees in the GH!

That is gorgeous! That would be perfect for this tree. Mike, what is your method for mounting them?
