hello everyone. I am new on growing plumeria and I live at UK near london.English is not my first language though. So please bare with my broken english. I have graft cutting plumeria obtusa "singapore white" and " singapore pink" . Because I live in a flat/apartment instead of house. I grow my plumeria indoor in a grow tent. I can probably move them to a bigger space in 3 to 4 years. but for now I am growing them in my small grow tent. am I crazy or not? Will my plumeria grow well and bloom? the first photo below is an overview of my grow tent with plumeria. the second photo is my dwarf singapore pink. the last photo is my obtusa 'singapore white'.

Hello fapopo, not a bad experiment, if it works well and good. We all try to work around with whatever limitations we have.

But from what I know, your indoor experiment, may help sustain the plant continue on growing leaves, but not enough energy to make the blooms. At times, depending on the nature of the plant, in this case a Plumeria, they do require stronger light intensity and matching sustained warm temps with some humidity to encourage better blooming.
Also depends what cultivar you have, some cultivars are more heat and light needy than others. They are after all tropical succulents.

In my area, I have learned to accept that they will sleep and rest during the winter months, so I just try to be patient and wait it out. I also chose the cultivar that is the most cold tolerant of them all, so they will have better chance of enduring our mild winter conditions even if I deliberately leave them outdoors at winter time.

I grow them indoors in a very bright sunny window. They have to be right next to the window. They have been blooming all winter. My room is kept at about 70F. I'm not sure you have the light for that in winter. Your weather is overcast a lot, right? You can carefully give them some half strength fertilizer. Don't overdo it. Keep watch for spider mites. I have had them appear in my grow tent where I have mostly bromeliads. Like Tarev said, it's a good experiment, and I wish you good luck with it. Growing them in London would be amazing and so satisfying.

thank you for the suggestion. spider mite is annoying. they are so small and difficult to spot and I have them already in my terrarium and maybe my grow tent too. I just bought some Predatory mite to help.

that's the growing environment I set for my plumerias. base on my lux meter reading. it's from 24k lux to 38k lux around the plants(the brightest sunlight is 120k lux) . the growing tip receives 24k lux and the leaves receive 30k+ lux. I have these grow light on for 16 hours everyday. grow light is on a timer to turn on/off itself. temperature between grow light and leaves is 30C degree. night time drop to 20C degree when grow light is off. I have two 12cm pc fan above the plants for ventilation. humidity level is between 40% to 80%+. when the light is on it's between 40% to 56% I spray the leaves and other plants at grow tent twice to three time a day. when grow light is off, grow tent humidity goes above 70%. that's the growing environment I set for my plumeria obtusa cultivar singapore white and singapore pink. let's see how my plumeria react to it.

@Fapopo great choice on these 2 cultivars. They do well in pots. Mine have been in pots for years. I lost the big ones to frost but I saved some cuttings. Making my Singapore white plumerias have been a challenge and I had owned them for years. Dwarf pink Singapore blooms yearly for me but not cold hardy.

it's good to hear from someone who also grow singapore frangipani. what are the pot size for your singapore white and singapore pink? do you move them out then move them back in every year? singapore pink seems to grow smaller and more compact than singapore white. and it flower for me 2 months after I plant the cutting. I don't know when will my singapore white flower. but I hope it will flower for me one day. how does singapore white smells like? does it smells like singapore pink? what makes growing singapore white a challenge? do you mean it doesn't flower often?

@fapopo, Singapore white grows as trees in tropical areas but are compact so they are in 3 to 5 gallon pots for me. While Dwarf Pink Singapore is truly dwarf and they can grow in a gallon pots for years. This is almost 3 years old.
Thumb of 2021-05-07/GigiPlumeria/2d07bc. And yes, they are prolific bloomers and branches out really good. This variety blooms for me every year and you get two or 3 tip cuttings every time it blooms. I had two 3 feet tall that died from frost a few years but thankfully I kept some cuttings. I keep new cuttings every other year when it gets too tall and leggy.

Singapore White is very fragrant, it is supposedly one of the most fragrant plumeria. Not really sure why mine refuses to bloom, except once. Maybe because I got them as dehydrated cuttings years ago. I still have 4, and the the bigger one might bloom for me this year.

All of my plumerias are outside all year round. That's why sometimes they die from frost when we get a bad one.

@fapopo they grow fast. I have to cut one of my DPS (Dwarf Pink Singapore) because it got too leggy and this has been on this pot for 6 years now. It was one long 2 tip and cut it off, that's what you see in the previous post.

Thumb of 2021-05-02/GigiPlumeria/ffa21e
Then last weekend I cut the 2 leggy branches again and now in their new pot. They will be in this pot for a few years.

@GigiPlumeria , did you root prune your singapore pink so it can stay at the same pot for that many years? you had a beautiful singapore pink, I hope it will branch out again and grow more beautiful leaves and flower for you.

@fapopo, no I don't trim the roots or repot except when I could tell roots are clogging the hole of the pots and cannot drain. But maybe I should. I have 50+ of these in pots and some in the ground. Some are mini-trees. Plus I have adeniums too. I like the adeniums because they are compact.
Thumb of 2021-05-08/GigiPlumeria/01de4c

My hubby gave this to me for Mother's Day and I had this for 7 years and has remained less than 2 feet in the pot. I don't repot my plants except this time, I repotted this spring to a bigger pot and rewarded me with blooms. But maybe I need to repot some to get rewarded with blooms.

@Fapopo not really I used to buy most of them from local nursery or big box retailer's here. I got tired killing some of them 10+ or maybe more so I started growing them from seeds. So most of mine are now seedlings I've rooted in 2013 and only a handful bloomed so far. Some bloomed only once and decided not to bloom again.

Thi is my own seedling it keeps changing its color and size and I lost the tag so I don't know the parent plant .This is the 3rd blooming season.

Thumb of 2021-05-08/GigiPlumeria/ea6677
I have a lot of seedlings that never bloomed but I like their leaves any way and they keep the hottest part of my house cooler during hot 🥵 summer days.

I have one that grows funky leaves like that sometimes. Never had the whole little stem grow off the side like that.
