Arlene, your market flowers are AMAZING!!! Wow, I would love to visit your booth. What month are those arrangements? Our night time temps here all summer long are in the 50's (with normal daytime temps, but high temps don't arrive until around 4 pm), so we don't get zinnias, etc blooming until mid-late August. So those would be Aug-Sept-October arrangements here, with our first frost coming usually around mid-October. Thank you for sharing those beautiful photos. The two toned green/pink buddleia is particularly stunning. Do you know what variety it is?

At your market do you include the vases/jars also for an added cost?

In my arrangement, the white flower is a lisianthus and the dark pink is a David Austin rose. Yes, light pink are a pink globe dahlia---short height plant, so front of border plant, but each tuber makes loads of flowers. We are lucky here, and do not have to dig up our dahlias, and they return most of the time.

The kiss me over the garden gate seeds need a period of cold: next year, seed them in your trays--probably in Jan or Feb for you. Put them outside and let the rain/frost fall on them. Ignore them x 3 weeks. Then bring them into the greenhouse with or without heat mat. They should germinate for you after about a 1-2 wks.

Craspedia (billy buttons, wildflower in Australia)---funny story---3 years ago, I only had 10 seeds. Got 2 vigorous plants. Last year ordered a big seed packet from Johnny's b/c I loved them so much---for some reason, none germinated so I assumed the seeds weren't good. (But luckily 1 of the 2 plants from the previous year had survived the winter, so I still had some flowers). This year---using the same Johnny's packet---I decided to start the rest of them (about 75 seeds), assuming none would take again. The seed gods decided to let about 3/4 germinate, and now I have perhaps as many as 50 vigorous plants. Not sure where I'll put them all. I should try and ship you some when they are bigger. I haven't done that before, but I could give it a try if you'd like? I could also pot up some kiss me seedlings now from outside, and get them growing in some containers for you to be shipped at the same time.

Craspedia! I couldn't remember the name, and I love the name! That is so funny about the seeds! But of course, not so funny if you don't have room to plant them all!

I have dahlias, but they were from seed and not really very pretty ones. And they don't work so well as cut flowers because they hang their heads, but that pink one would probably work. The seed dahlias also produced tubers and I didn't dig them. So nice not to have to dig up for winter! when I was in MIchigan we had to dig them up as well as glads, and I love glads. I do a whole row of them! But I had to dig them last fall because they had thrips and I had to soak them so hopefully this year they will be fine.

If you want to try and ship some seedlings, I will pay for the postage, but really, you don't have to mess with that if you don't want to. I do appreciate the offer and would really love it, but I know I have a plant waiting to be sent to someone and I still haven't gotten around to it! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I did look this morning for my lone kiss me and haven't found it so far. It might be over at my son's. I did throw some seeds in the ground last fall because I figured then needed some cold but so far none have come up. They still might though. I can always give some seeds to my daughter to WS for me because I always visit her in April to deliver tons of flowers. Although, with her starting to WS, I may not be needed for flowers any more. Sad

I think we start having cut flowers in May, but just the early ones, sweet william, iris, etc. Then full swing by mid June. I was trying to keep better records of what was blossoming and when, but you know how that goes!

And get this, we use cut off water bottles for vases! People LOVE the recycling gig. I refuse to let any flowers go without water like some vendors do. I usually take about 35-40 vases and most of the time sell them all, but then I only charge $5 per for them, what a steal because I pack them full. My daughter-in-law's father makes furniture and when they come to visit he is always making something. He saw my box with holes cut out for the vases and he made me two wooden boxes/trays with holes cut out and handles cut out to carry them! So at the end of the day when I have flowers left I give them away to the vendors and I feel like I should be saying, cigars, cigarettes, Tiparillo? (But you are much too young to know what that means!) Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I have lisianthus too but no whites. I have overwintered some as well as started seeds again this year. They are so slow to grow though! But they are gorgeous. The buddelia is just called mulit-colored I think. If I find some babies this summer I'll pot up and save one for you! they usually are easy to find.

Well, I planted the rest of my seeds so I NEEDED one to survive to collect seeds this year. I'm just happy I FINALLY got one to propagate!

Did you find yours?

Now I am looking for two packs of strawflowers I just got from Swallowtail this year, a peach and a white. I have 4 boxes (you know rubbermaid types with snap on lids), one for flowers, one for veggies, one for tomatoes and one for herbs (smaller) I have gone through every one of them. Now I'm going through empty seed envelopes (I keep them to reuse) I really, really wanted some white strawflowers because I find myself coming up short of white flowers in my bouquets every year. They have to be here somewhere!!!!

I couldn't find my Mikado Poppies for ages.

Finally I stumbled on them in the wrong jar. I think I remember why I put them there - the right jar was full, and I thought I would "just remember" where thjey were.

Yeah, right!

I do that all the time. I do it when I plant too and don't have my tags with me. Especially since even though I am planting in "blocks of flowers", I don't have a master plan so I end up tucking things in where I think there's enough space. Of course there is, the plant is like 2" across. What? you mean it's going to get bigger? Hmm, we'll see how that works out.

I did find them! Then I remembered that I was going to grow Love Lies Bleeding this year instead of KMOTGG. Hopefully I'll know where they are for next year Green Grin!

I do this all of the time. Especially since I grow the majority perennials, this causes a great deal of problems.

I'm very slowly getting my master plan together, but the going is slow.

My favorite filler flower for cut flowers, if you need that little bit of white, is plain old yarrow. For some it's a weed, but I think it really fills out bouquets nicely at the bases.

Arlene---so happy for your kiss me. I had several come up, but the yard service raked that bed (a huge "no, no"---getting big reprimand from me. They are not supposed to touch a single garden bed unless directed by me. They are mainly here to cut the grass and edge. It's upsetting). So I will only have a few kiss me's this year. A few sprouted in a large container, so I can save those and move them. I only need a couple anyway. They get so huge, the size of small trees.

Zulu, love everyone that you listed! Thumbs up

Stephanie, the one color of yarrow I do not have is white, go figure. I am also planting a lot of white statice this year butI will have to get my hands on some white yarrow...oh, I just remembered, I do have a white yarrow but it looks like Baby's Breath. It is called Ballerina, from Bluestone.

Chelle, do you think the monarda is Jacob Kline by chance? I think that's the red one I have...

I had already planted impatiens when I found out about the downy mildew thing so I'm putting them out and spraying with fungicide and watering carefully. Hopefully I'll get a little bit of enjoyment from them.

Old hanging planter I got at an antique shop. Photo is blurry. There is a hypotese and something else in there and room to still plant a Thunbergia, if they germinate
